Full day Outer Reef Snorkel tour
Welcome Aboard
Your day with Wavelength begins with a courtesy coach transfer from your accommodation to our offices at Marina Mirage. You are met in the office with warm greeting, smiles and reading materials until you board the vessell where an invigorating cup of tea or coffee awaits. Our crew will then introduce the itinerary for the day and provide a brief introduction to the reef and a few hints on how to get the most out of your day.
About Site Selections
During your Great Barrier Reef adventure with us our first priority is to ensure that you have not only the most enjoyable experience possible, but also the safest. With this in mind, please note that we select up to 3 of our 14 sites before your journey and this is completely dependant on the weather conditions for your day of travel.
While this means that some of the sites onr our website may not be selected, the sheer number of sites that we have to choose from means that you will get the maximum benefits that we can offer. Our site selection is unmatched and each as spectacular as the next.
The Journey
Wavelength then departs on the 90-minute trip to the edge of the continental shelf, passing Low Isles en route. On the way we often encounter dolphins, whales and various species of rays. The journey is a good opportunity for our crew to get to know you and answer any questions you have about the day. During this time, you will be fitted with our high quality snorkeling gear so that when we arrive at our destination, you will have more time snorkeling.
Let’s Snorkel
Upon arrival the snorkel advisor conducts a comprehensive gear and safety brief and if it is your first time snorkeling, we have plenty of time to share our tips and help you feel more comfortable in your gear. Once in the water guests are free to explore the wonders of the reef under the expert advice of our crew.
Second Site
After morning tea and some time to reflect on the beauty of nature we move along to another one of our many sites, chosen to suit the conditions on the day. Here, with all passengers having mastered their new snorkeling skills, we conduct a guided snorkel tour. This allows our marine biologists to help snorkelers discover aspects of the new site that might otherwise be missed, and to point out the multitude of life forms found under water.
On a guided snorkel tour it is possible to be handed a small number of different creatures, specifically branching corals and mushroom corals. You can even meet schools of large fish or even turtles, and drift over colourful coral gardens featuring giant clams.
Please note that we have strict guidelines on what can be touched so as to protect the integrety of the reef. If you aren't sure - then just ask us.
Participate in Research
Snorkelers may even participate in our research and monitoring program, which Wavelength conducts as our commitment to sustainable management of the reef. With over 1500 fish and 400 coral species to see, monitoring becomes an important part of helping to ensure the future of the Great Barrier Reef. With our Marine Biologists on board, you will now be ready to learn more about the reef than you ever thought possible during our amazing "Reef Talks."
A Gourmet Lunch
Lunch aboard Wavelength can be both a relaxed or interactive affair. The open and expansive rear deck allow passengers to mingle with other guests and crew, while those wanting some quiet time can find a private spot on Wavelength's bow or top deck. The delicious deli-style lunch includes a range of salads, chicken, beef, ham and rolls. Also available onboard are water, soft drinks, coffee and tea. Wavelength can also cater for different dietary requirements including Kosher and Halal, vegetarians, and gluten free.
Reef Talks
During lunch, our Marine Biologists will conduct our interactive Reef Talks. This is where you can ask questions on anything that you've seen through the day or simply sit, relax and learn all about the ecosystem of the Great Barrier Reef.
Third Site
Once everyone’s appetites have been satisfied and all questions answered we head to our final site of the day, where, with a better understanding of the reef, guests are free to adventure further, exploring endless nooks and crannies.
Cruising
Following afternoon tea we head back with the wonderful view of the sun dropping towards the rainforest clad mountains. Wavelength arrives back in Port at approximately 4.30pm.
