As one of the original Reef operators in Port Douglas it is our privilege to be able to choose from over 20 sites at the Northern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Each day we choose three of these sites to share with you. By varying ours sites we can showcase the amazing diversity of life and formation that is found at this Wonder of the Natural World. Located on Tongue Reef, Turtle Bay awaits you to swim with a variety of megafauna, including everyone's favourite...The Turtle!
Why is it called Turtle Bay?
Turtle Bay is the highlight of any trip. This site is simply unbelievable. Due to the spectacular nature of this site, it is the envy of every other Outer Reef tour operator in the area. With our exclusive access to this site you are almost guaranteed to be able to swim alongside Turtles. Turtle Bay, a Wavelength favourite and arguably one of the very best sites that the Port Douglas region has to offer, is one that offers a little bit of everything
With approximately 8 resident green sea turtles, including the regular characters such as "Friendly Girl" and the chance to encounter one of these endangered gentle giants in its natural surroundings is the highlight of all of our sites, and an experience that you will never forget. While aptly named, turtles are far from all this site has to offer!
You mean there's more to see?
Some of the best coral cover in the region occur here and an array of our favourite spots such as "shark alley" (don't worry – the most common sharks we see are the smaller reef sharks which pose absolutely no threat to humans!) – Turtle Bay provides the opportunity to see a huge range of the reefs favourites, in one of the most breathtaking underwater environments the reef has to offer.
Ok, where can we find Turtle Bay?
Turtle Bay is situated about 30 miles off the coast of Australia, right in the Coral Sea. The journey to Turtle Bay can take about an hour and a half, but the trip is well worth it. Explore the maps below to get a feel for just how close the Great Barrier Reef really is!
Turtle Bay is a low impact reef area and Wavelength has exclusive access to this amazing natural site. Snorkelling with turtles is an experience that you will never forget!
